Hannah Jacobs Portfolio

Hannah Jacobs (Jakes) is a composer, producer, multi-instrumentalist and electronic musician. She is a director and producer at Upcycled Sounds recording studio and label, in East London. Her innovative music at the boundaries of pop, sound-art, ambient electronica, jazz and neo-classical has been featured by the likes of Gramophone, Songlines, Spotify, Apple Music, BBC Radio 1, 2, 3 and 6, Clash, Classic FM, UNESCO, and premiered at the Ashmolean Proms. She’s had commissions funded by Jazz South, Orchestra of St John’s, BBC News, Oxford Contemporary Music, Oxford University Environmental Change Institute, The Centre For Energy Ethics and Arts Council England, and has been part of residencies funded by Britten Pears Arts and Fusion Arts. Currently, she fronts alternative-pop / sound-art duo pecq, composes soundtrack and experimental electro-classical work, provides session keys, vocals and synth and produces records.

She is a multi-instrumentalist and singer, playing and writing in bands from a young age, as well as learning classical piano, holding Grade 8 Distinction. From a state school background, she worked hard to achieve a First Class BA Music from Oxford University. She has also worked on many projects combining arts and socio-environmental justice, including co-founding a food justice organisation, founding an intersectional feminist folk initiative and becoming a Director of an International Music Exchange and Music Festival.

Jakes has performed on keys, synth, vocals and playback for projects including Arlo Parks, Barry Can’t Swim, Berghaus, Wyldest, Genevieve Dawson, Orchestra of St John’s, Samba de la Muerte, Premium Leisure, Georgia Duncan, China Bowls, Nuage, Duke Boara, Jack Durtnall, Sam Lee, Sophie Janna, The Bobo, feeo and Beth Porter. She’s toured internationally including performances for NPR Tiny Desk, BBC 1 and The Late Show, Primavera, Reading/Leeds Festival and Hammersmith Apollo, Roundhouse and Sydney Opera House.
